Michael Ilg

Michael Ilg studied history with a focus on Southeast European history and Jewish history at the universities of Augsburg, Prague and Poznań. From 2021 to 2023, he worked as a research volunteer in the exhibitions department at the German Historical Museum in Berlin.

The Il Kal Grande in Sarajevo

Once the largest Sephardic synagogue in Yugoslavia, the Il Kal Grande was built in 1930 in the center of Sarajevo. After its partial destruction by german soldiers in 1941, the building has fulfilled a number of different functions and had a varied history, that is little known to this day.
